Zimbabwe: Country Exports 15.3 Million Kg Of Flue-Cured Leaf So Far

Data from the Tobacco Industry and Marketing Board of Zimbabwe showed that so far in 2014 Zimbabwe exported 15.3 million kgs of flue-cured leaf worth US$ 55.9 million at an average price of US$ 3.65 per kg, compared with 23.2 million kgs worth US$ 88.6 million exported at US$ 3.82 per kg in the same period in 2013, with China continuing to be the leading buyer.

The top five export markets forZimbabwein 2014 areChina,Belgium,United Arab Emirates,South AfricaandRussia, while it wasSouth Africa,China,Hong Kong,Sudanand UAE in 2013. Malaysiaoffered the highest price of US$ 8.72 per kg, followed byTaiwanUS$ 7.67,TurkeyUS$ 7.56,ChinaUS$ 7.45,HungaryUS$ 7.30, theNetherlandsUS$ 6.72 andLesothoUS$ 6.60 per kg.  The TIMB said deliveries for both auction and contract sales have increased significantly, adding 99,174 growers have registered for the 2014 season, up from82,833 inthe 2013 season (NewsdayZimbabwe4/1).
