Dr Bruce Munthali, CEO of the Malawi Tobacco Control Commission, said tobacco growers sold 22 million kg of leaf since the 2014 marketing season began on March 24th, compared with 12 million kg sold in the corresponding period of 2013. Dr. Munthali said a high level delegation of seven Egyptian leaf dealers arrived in the country, a move he said could boost the tobacco market and raise leaf prices (Nyasa Times 4/22).
