VALUE OF ARGENTINE TOBACCO EXPORTS DECLINES 15.9 PERCENT

Argentine exports of unmanufactured tobacco and tobacco products reached US$ 310 million in the period January - November 2013, a 15.9 percent decline in terms of value compared with the same period in 2012, reported today the Sectoral Economic Research (IES) firm.

DOMINICAN REPUBLIC ANNOUNCES ORGANIC TOBACCO CROP

Managing director of the Dominican Tobacco Institute (Intabaco), Eng. Mr. Juan Francisco Caraballo, announced the launch of an organic tobacco crop and therefore the Institute seeks to better meet growers' requirements.

Brazil - Tobacco Price Negotiations End

This claim is supported by the weekly survey carried out by Afubra among growers that have already sold their crop.  Invoices issued by buyers show that they are paying an average of R$ 8.47/kg for Virginia flue-cured.  Compared with the price obtained for the previous crop of R$ 7.51, the current price represents a 12.8 per cent increase in real terms.

ITGA, UNITAB and burley tobacco growers have joined in a action to send a letter to European Representatives concerning article 6 of the TPD claiming what it will suppose to growers in Europe, Africa and America if this measures are to be approved in the near future.
